In this hands-on workshop you will learn how to create a map with QGIS using data downloaded from various sources.
Step-by-step guidance will be given on importing data into QGIS and using background maps from OpenStreetMap and Ordnance Survey Ireland.
This workshop is designed for those with little or no GIS experience and who wish to use Open Source software.
Objectives
By the end of the session you will have completed the following activities:
- Use the main elements of the QGIS interface
- Download spatial data from various sources
- Import and view data in QGIS
- Work with layers, symbols and labels
- Choose an appropriate layout for your map
- Use QGIS Map Composer to create a printable map
Who should attend?
This course will be of interest to administrative staff and students or researchers who would like to learn the basic skills required to create a map using QGIS. It is designed for those with little or no GIS experience and who don’t have access to a UCD course with a GIS module.
Certificates of attendance will be available on request on the day of the workshop.
