Description:

In this hands-on workshop you will learn how to create a map with ArcGIS using data downloaded from organisations such as the National Parks & Wildlife Service, the CSO and the EPA.

Step-by-step guidance will be given on importing the data into the ArcGIS software package and using background maps from Ordnance Survey Ireland's MapGenie service.

This workshop is designed for those with little or no GIS experience.

 The 2nd workshop Introduction to ArcGIS : Visualising Data Using ArcGIS (part 2 of 2) will be held on Thursday March 21st 2019.

 

Objectives

By the end of the session you will have completed the following activities:

  • Download data from websites
  • Import and view data  in ArcMap
  • Create thematic maps
  • Create and add point features to ArcMap
  • Save and print your map as a jpeg or pdf
  • Run a spatial query in ArcMap

 

Who should attend?

This course will be of interest to administrative staff and students or researchers who would like to learn the basic skills required to create a map using ArcGIS.  It is designed for those with little or no GIS experience and who don’t necessarily have access to a UCD course with a GIS module. 

 

Certificates of attendance will be available on request on the day of the workshop.
