Description

In this hands-on workshop you will  learn how to create a map with ArcGIS using data downloaded from organisations such as the National Parks & Wildlife Service and the EPA. 

Step-by-step guidance will be given on importing the data into the ArcGIS software package and using background maps from Ordnance Survey Ireland's MapGenie service.  

This course is designed for those with little or no GIS experience and who don’t necessarily have access to a UCD course with a GIS module. It is intended to introduce participants to the basics of GIS and how people use it to visualise and interpret geospatial data.

Objectives

The session will include the following tasks: 

• Joining tables 
• Clipping
• Buffering
• Importing a spreadsheet with data to visualise 
• Creating a heat map

Who should attend?

This course will be of interest to administrative staff and students or researchers who would like to learn the basic skills required to create a map using ArcGIS.  It is designed for those with little or no GIS experience but who ideally have already attended the workshop Introduction to ArcGIS : Visualising Data Using ArcGIS (part 1 of 2) held on November 8th 2018.

Certificates of attendance will be available on request on the day of the workshop.
